welcome!

Welcome to the San Juan Hills High School Choral Family. Our choirs have gone through enormous growth over the last few years and we are excited for you to join our big, happy, very loud family. We are excited to make next year the best one yet.

Music allows us to express all of these emotions and much more with the company of those making music with us. I congratulate you on your decision to choose music and I hope that you will find an everlasting joy and curiosity about the world through music. 

Do I need to audition?

No! If you chose choir for your schedule next year, you’re already in! We do not cut any students from this team and this family. We are proud to have four choirs on San Juan Hills campus including our Meistersingers (beginning baritone/tenor chorus), Concert Choir (beginning treble chorus), A Cappella (Advanced Treble Choir), and Chamber Singers. The Meistersingers and Concert Choir are our beginning level ensembles and I take great pride in teaching all the foundational techniques of singing, reading music, and artistry in these classes.

Many of the students that start in the beginning ensembles move on to audition for our higher levels of choir after their first year. The A Cappella and Chamber Singers have established themselves as some of the best high school ensembles in Orange County over the last few years and we are excited to work hard to maintain that reputation. They regularly sing at festivals with other high school groups in the area and perform works normally sung by collegiate and professional choral ensembles. 

Live Auditions

Live Audition – We are excited to have you audition for our program! You also will need to schedule a live audition on the link below. Please fill in your name on your desired date and time for your live audition. The audition will consist of a vocal range test, tonal memory test, and sight-reading. Auditions will be occurring from April 15-18, 2024 from 3:30PM and 5:30PM in 10 minute slots.

What Will I Need to Prepare? - You will be asked to prepare 16-32 bars of music in the genre of your choice (roughly 30 seconds of music). There will also be musicianship tests including sight-reading, range tests, and ear training tests.

chamber Choir Call Backs

Starting this year, we will be holding Call Backs for our top-level Chamber Choir. Students who are called back will be asked to learn a short piece of music before the Call Back. Returning Chamber Choir students will be present for the Call Back.

Posting - Chamber Call Back List will be posted on the choir website on Friday, April 19th on the choir website (www.sjhhschoir.org).

When - If called back, students will come to the Call Back taking place in the choir room on Tuesday, April 23rd at 3:30PM.

News - Final Choir Lists will be posted on Friday, April 26th!
